Apple TV+ One-Year Free Trials Extended Until July 2021

By Bill Toulas / January 16, 2021

Apple has decided to extend the free trials of the Apple TV+ service until July 2021 for the people who bought the devices and were looking to enjoy one year for free. This will add up to nine more months for free, depending on when people bought the product and started their subscription.

The first extension was announced back in October 2020, pushing the renewal date to February 2021, but Apple has now decided to extend it further: to July 2021. All eligible customers will be notified via email, too, to avoid confusion with the subscription renewals.

If you are an Apple TV+ subscriber, all that you need to know is that you don’t have to do anything right now. Just continue to enjoy the service until June, when the next definitive announcements about what’s going to happen will land. If you are currently paying for the Apple One bundle or using Apple TV+ through a monthly subscription, you will receive a $4.99 store credit to offset the cost and make it fair for everyone.

Apple is doing this for two main reasons: a response to the pandemic situation and to ensure that more people will renew for another year. The consumer electronics and content services company will soon expand the Apple TV+ content significantly, adding notable movies and series. This new content should guarantee a much larger number of renewals when the free trial is over, so this move makes business sense for Apple.

Yearly subscriptions to the Apple TV+ service cost $49.99, while those looking to renew monthly will have to spend $4.99 each time. For $9.99 per month, subscribers can get a special bundle that includes access to “CBS All Access” and “Showtime.” Finally, even if you don’t have a TV+ subscription or dedicated Apple TV device, you can still watch some shows for free by entering a valid Apple ID.
