GOOSE VPN – TechNadu’s Hands-On Review

Our every VPN review article follows a uniform structure. We’ll be checking various aspects of GOOSE VPN and rating them individually, which will help us reach the final score. To learn more, here’s how we rate and review VPN services.

Background, Jurisdiction & Reputation

Netherlands Map

GOOSE VPN comes from the Netherlands, a country that’s part of the European Union and the 9-Eyes Alliance. Therefore, we recommend exercising caution if you seek total online anonymity. Our Score: 7/10.

Prior to testing this VPN hands-on, we’ve checked some important background information. Here’s what you need to know about GOOSE VPN and its country of origin.

Jurisdiction & Applicable Laws

GOOSE VPN comes from the Netherlands. More precisely, this is a product by a company called Goose BV, located in Dordrecht, The Netherlands. Now, let’s see what that means for its subscribers located in this country, as well as anywhere else.

First and foremost, it’s important to know that the Netherlands is a member of the European Union since the inception of this political organization. As you can expect, the Dutch government has implemented GDPR among the first counties in Europe, which means that your private data is protected against unauthorized collection and exploitation. This set of laws is already in action, and we’ve seen cases of Dutch courts protecting the anonymity of Web users in this country.

On the other hand, the Netherlands is a member of the 9 Eyes Alliance, whose mission is to collect data on a wider scale and share that intelligence data among the member countries. In general, that’s why it’s believed that VPNs that originate from such countries are considered to be less than ideal. Of course, there are always expectations and it’s important to make a conclusion only after doing in-depth research. So, make sure to read the following segment about this VPN’s previous data leaks.

Previous Data Leaks

We’re pleased to report that GOOSE VPN comes free of any previous data leaks. More precisely, we couldn’t find any reports on any previous data breaches or active data leaks. In addition, there are no reports on any type of unauthorized data collection.

All in all, we conclude that GOOSE VPN seems to be a trustworthy VPN. However, if you seek total online anonymity, we do recommend using a VPN that comes from a country that’s not affiliated with any large-scale intelligence network.

Supported Platforms & Devices

Goose VPN Supported Platforms

GOOSE VPN supports a wide range of platforms. You can also install it on compatible routers, and even use it on certain media streaming devices. Our Score: 8/10.

The following table explains which platforms does this VPN support, natively. This means that these are native apps that you can install and then uninstall, the easy way.

Platform Compatibility

Desktop Platforms Windows, macOS.
Mobile Platforms Android, iOS.
Web Browsers Google Chrome.
Routers Asus-WRT, Linksys, DD-WRT, and more.
Other Devices Android TV.

It’s also worth noting that you can configure GOOSE VPN on certain platforms, manually. For example, there are instructions on this VPN’s website on how to use it on Linux. Even though there isn’t an official application, you can still use this VPN’s servers to secure your Linux-based device. And also, you can use GOOSE VPN on Chromebooks, considering that it comes with a Chrome extension.

We have another interesting piece of news for you. You can use GOOSE VPN on an unlimited number of devices, by using a single VPN subscription. We have to say that we’re pleasantly surprised by this, as this offer seems to be more than generous.

Installation & Initial Configuration

First Installation Step Goose VPN

It’s quite easy to get started with GOOSE VPN, even if you’re a complete beginner. The entire sign-up and installation procedure should not take more than a few minutes of your time. Our Score: 10/10.

To get started with this VPN, you first need to subscribe to GOOSE VPN. The sign-up page will ask for your email or password, or you can use your Facebook or Google credentials (which you should avoid using, for privacy-related reasons). Once you pick a subscription and finalize the payment, you’ll receive your GOOSE VPN credentials that you can use to log-in to your account (on the VPN’s website).

Second Installation Step Goose VPN

Once logged in, you’ll get to review your account information. And also, this is from where you can download various applications for different operating systems. The process of installing GOOSE VPN is quite simple, suitable even for complete beginners. And when it comes to installing this VPN on a router or configuring it manually, you’ll find handy and highly useful guides.

Prominent Features

Prominent Features Showcase Goose VPN

GOOSE VPN should cater to average home users, as well as those looking for a bit more advanced option. It’s missing high-end features though, so highly experienced VPN users will be left wanting for more. Our Score: 7/10.

Interested to know what kinds of features this VPN offers? We’ve come up with a handy checklist, found in the following table. Check it out.

VPN Features Checklist

DNS Leak Protection YES
IPv6 Leak Protection NO
Kill-Switch YES
Ad-Blocker, Anti-Malware YES (Priced extra).
Unlimited Server Switches YES
Unlimited Bandwidth YES
Unlimited Data YES

We can see that GOOSE VPN (almost) checks all the right boxes. You’re protected against DNS and IPv4 leaks. However, it appears that IPv6 isn’t supported just yet, so you’re advised to disable this protocol on your computer. That way, you’ll downgrade to IPv4 without any speed loss or other consequences, while making sure that your Web data is safe at all times.

It’s also worth mentioning that GOOSE VPN comes with several useful features like anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-phishing, and extra firewall protection. However, all of these are available as a single add-on priced at $0.50 per month. In addition, you’re still advised to use a dedicated anti-virus tool, so we don’t recommend paying extra for those features, as they don’t seem to be 100% ‘there’ just yet.

When it comes to more sophisticated features, GOOSE VPN comes with a built-in kill switch. However, it’s missing options like split-tunneling and other high-end features.

Server Count

Server Count Goose VPN

GOOSE VPN won’t impress anyone with the size of its server network. It’s not the smallest one out there, but it’s quite modest, at best. Our Score: 3/10.

And now, here’s how many servers this VPN offers, in how many countries, and in how many locations. Take a look at the following table.

Server Count Info

Number of Servers N/A (55+)
Number of Locations 30+
Number of Countries 26
Specific Cities Selection YES
Unlimited Switching YES

GOOSE VPN isn’t willing to share any precise information on how many servers it offers. However, we know that it comes with servers in 26 countries and more than 30 locations. You’ll find ‘regular’ secure servers, but also specialized servers that are optimized for P2P traffic and media streaming.

Now, let’s make some comparisons. ExpressVPN, which is the highest-rated VPN on our website, comes with servers in 90+ countries. As you can see in our NordVPN review, this one is present in 60 countries. And, as per our CyberGhost VPN review, this VPN also has servers in 60 countries. You can see that GOOSE VPN is quite behind those well-respected and highly reputable VPNs.

Ease of Use

Home Screen UI Goose VPN

GOOSE VPN doesn’t have the most polished UI – but it gets the job done. It’s easy and intuitive enough, even for complete beginners. Our Score: 9/10.

The home screen of GOOSE VPN might look a little busy, but it provides access to pretty much any area of the application. At the top, you’ll find a prominent ON/OFF switch used to secure your Web connection and then to disconnect from a secure server. And just underneath this, you’ll find a dropdown menu of the available servers. As you click on different servers, the bottom-placed map changes to show you the distance between your computer and the chosen server.

Server Selection UI Goose VPN

At the very bottom of the UI, you’ll see which protocol you’re currently using. And then on the right, you’ll see two buttons. The first one gives you an overview of your subscription/account, and it allows you to visit your online dashboard. The second button gives you access to this VPN’s settings, so let’s go over what can be found here.

  • General: This tab allows you to enable GOOSE VPN to start on system startup, you can choose between different interface languages and more.

General Settings UI Goose VPN
  • Connection: If you choose to start GOOSE VPN on system startup, it’s recommended to allow it to connect automatically. This is also where you can enable the VPN’s kill switch and its ‘Smart Server List’ feature which narrows down the number of available servers.
  • Protocol: GOOSE VPN allows you to easily switch between different VPN protocols. On Windows, for example, you can choose from OpenVPN, PPTP, IKEv2, and L2TP/IPsec.

Protocols UI Goose VPN
  • FAQ/Support: And finally, this tab allows you to visit this VPN’s FAQ section (on its website). Alternatively, you can also submit a support ticket by automatically attaching your debug file.

In general, GOOSE VPN comes with a user-friendly design. It might not be the most polished UI in terms of its visual design, but it certainly gets the job done. Also, it’s perfectly suitable for first-time users.

Media Streaming & Torrenting Support

Goose VPN Unblocks Netflix

Even though GOOSE VPN unblocks plenty of streaming websites, our experience was less than pleasurable. However, your mileage might vary. Our Score: 8/10.

You’re surely interested in whether GOOSE VPN works with Netflix? Well, we’ve tested this VPN against some of the world’s most popular streaming platforms, and here are the results.

Media Streaming & Torrenting Support

Netflix US YES
Hulu YES
BBC iPlayer YES
Amazon Prime Video YES
Torrenting (P2P) YES

As you can see, GOOSE VPN scores quite high when it comes to website unblocking. However, it’s worth noting that streaming media when using this VPN was sometimes a painful process. Even though we have a very fast Web connection (150 Mbps), this VPN throttled us in a big way. Streaming in HD via Netflix seemed like an impossible task. So, even though this VPN unblocks media streaming websites, we recommend checking other options as well.

In terms of torrenting, this VPN comes with specialized servers across the world. Sadly, you won’t find P2P-optimized serves in the USA. However, you’re in luck if you’re in Europe, with many P2P servers available there.

Security & Privacy

Privacy Policy Goose VPN

GOOSE VPN comes with strong and capable VPN protocols. Also, it doesn’t collect any connection or activity logs, and it comes DNS leak-free. Our Score: 9/10.

The primary purpose of any VPN (including GOOSE VPN) is to safeguard and protect your privacy. So, let’s take a look at how successful is this VPN in those aspects.

Supported Encryption Protocols

In terms of encrypting your data, GOOSE VPN relies on the industry-standard AES-256 encryption. And then, there’s a wide range of VPN protocols, depending on what platform you’re using. You’re free to switch between OpenVPN, IKEv2, PPTP, and L2TP/IPsec – all of which come with their strengths and weaknesses. If you want the best possible protection for your data, we recommend using OpenVPN.

Logging Policy

The official website of GOOSE VPN describes this VPN as a no-logs solution. Of course, this doesn’t mean that none of your data is stored on the company’s servers, so we’ve taken a close look at its privacy policy. Here’s what we’ve discovered.

Upon signing-up, your email address is stored as well as your IP address (one-time only). This also applies to your payment data, which is needed for recurring subscriptions. As you use the application itself, your Web activity or your IP address is never logged. However, GOOSE VPN collects information on your bandwidth consumption.

In short, GOOSE VPN collects some information – but this logging is completely benign, and in some instances needed to make this service run. There are no connection or activity logs.

DNS Leak Test

Goose VPN Passess DNS Leak Test

As evident from the screenshot above, we found no DNS leaks. This means that GOOSE VPN safeguards your digital identification in a secure way, and present only your ‘virtual’ information. This includes your virtual IP address, hostname, virtual ISP, and country of origin.

Speed & Performance

Netflix Streaming via Goose VPN

After doing a round of speed tests, we conclude that GOOSE VPN isn’t one of the fastest performing VPNs. It slowed us down by around 40%, on average. Our Score: 6.5/10.

Next, we’ll tell you about what kind of performance you can expect. For this purpose, we’ve connected to both nearby and remote servers, while doing a series of speed tests. So, here are the results.

Baseline Speed Before Testing Goose VPN
Our baseline stats.

First and foremost, we needed to set up some baseline data. So, we checked the speed of our ‘naked’ Web connection, without having this VPN involved in the process. During this round of speed tests, we got 147.30 Mbps for downloads and 10.10 Mbps for uploads.

Austria Server Goose VPN Performance
Performance of a nearby GOOSE VPN server.

Then, we connected to a nearby server. We’re located in Europe where GOOSE VPN offers plenty of servers. We easily found a server in one of our neighboring countries. This time around, we got 128.46 Mbps for downloads and 14.26 Mbps for uploads.

USA Server Goose VPN Performance
Performance of a remote GOOSE VPN server.

And finally, we also connected to a server in the USA, which is a remote location in our case. This is when we got 51.12 Mbps for downloads and 26.25 Mbps for uploads. As you can see, the download speed decreased as started to use a more remote server. However, the upload speed instead – which is not something we see often.

Download Speed Upload Speed Speed Reduction
Baseline Data 147.30 Mbps 10.10 Mbps 0%
Nearby Server 128.46 Mbps 14.26 Mbps 13%
Remote Server 51.14 Mbps 26.25 Mbps 65%

On average, GOOSE VPN slowed us down by 39%. However, it’s interesting to note that our upload speed actually improved – which isn’t something we see often.

Customer Support

Goose VPN Customer Support Page

GOOSE VPN can assist you in several ways. You can also use the company’s live chat feature, but only if you don’t have a highly specific technical question. Our Score: 8/10.

VPNs can be somewhat overwhelming, especially when using them for the first time. That’s why you’ll need reliable customer support. With this said, here’s how GOOSE VPN can assist you in case of any questions or technical troubles.

This VPN comes with an informative FAQ section covering things like using the application, understanding its features, managing your user account, and more. Then, there’s a contact form on its website that you use to get in touch with a team of professionals. It usually takes a few hours until you hear back from someone. If you want to have your question answered as soon as possible, there’s a live chat option on the website as well.

When it comes to very specific and technical questions, we recommend using the contact form on the website. We’ve talked to the company’s representatives via live chat, and they weren’t helpful in case of highly specific questions, as they usually just copy-paste segments from the company’s FAQ page.

Link to Goose VPN Pricing Page

GOOSE VPN comes with a high-priced monthly plan. The only way to bring the price down is to buy one of its long-term plans. Also, it comes with a ‘tricky’ money-back guarantee that’s quite limiting. Our Score: 7/10.

At the moment, you’ll find three subscription plans. They all come with the same set of features. Their only difference is in their duration, where long-term plans come with bigger savings. Take a look at the table found below for more information.

Total Price Per Month Savings
1 Month $12.99 $12.99 0%
1 Year $59.88 $4.99 62%
2 Years $71.76 $2.99 77%

We believe that this VPN’s monthly plan is quite expensive. However, the same can’t be said for the long-term plans. For example, you can subscribe to GOOSE VPN by using its 24-month plan, whose price comes down to only $2.99 per month. This means that you’ll get 77% off its regular, monthly price.

Among other important information, GOOSE VPN comes with a free 30-day trial. This means that once you complete the sign-up, you won’t be charged immediately. In addition, the 30-day money-back guarantee only applies to those who have used 100MB of data (or less). You can also have your money returned in case you’re experiencing extended technical problems with this service.

Finally, please note that GOOSE VPN supports several payment methods. This includes credit cards, PayPal, and other online payment processors. There’s no anonymous way to pay for this subscription, though.

Do We Recommend GOOSE VPN?

Link to Goose VPN Website

Even though GOOSE VPN has several major downsides, this VPN still has a lot going for it. If you’re a regular home user who simply wants to protect their Web data, this might be a solution for you. Those with more specific needs, as well as more advanced users, will certainly find much better options out there.

  • PROS: Easy to install; Quite simple to use; Strong selection of VPN protocols; AES-256 encryption; Doesn’t collect personal data; Unblocks Netflix and other streaming platforms.
  • CONS: Not the most polished UI; High-priced monthly plan; Limited selection of servers; Strict refund policy.
  • OUR SCORE: 7.5 out of 10!

Interested to learn more about this VPN? If that’s so, make sure to visit the official website of GOOSE VPN, where you’ll find additional information that can help you make up your mind. This isn’t a perfect VPN, but we’re sure it’ll find its way to numerous users out there.

In case you liked this review, we’d like to ask you to share it on the Web. And to stay on top of the latest VPN-related coverage, don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

Review Summary

In general, GOOSE VPN seems like an average VPN solution that can protect your online data. However, it doesn't truly excel in any particular area, and we believe that more advanced users will be left wanting for more.
