Can You Change Language on Discovery Plus?

By Gabriela Vatu / January 20, 2021

We've all become accustomed to streaming services that are a bit more versatile, offering users a wide range of options to customize their service. With Discovery Plus, things are pretty rudimentary right now. Let's see if there's a way to change the language on Discovery Plus or not.

Unfortunately, since Discovery Plus is pretty basic right now, there isn't a way to change the language the service is displayed in. The settings area doesn't allow you to make any major changes in how the service is displayed, and the profiles area is pretty much useless.

From the settings area, you can only choose the active profile, make changes to your plan (if you subscribed directly through the website), and change things like your email address and password, or manage the devices connected to the account. Via the profiles area, you can only change the name and add a picture.

The site lacks a dropdown menu from which to select the language to display it in, as we've seen on other services.

In short, Discovery Plus only comes in English. For now, at least, there is no way around this. It is understandable, to some extent, that the service is only mainly in English, but for a country that is so diverse, there really should have been at least a couple of extra options.

At the beginning of January, Discovery Plus also launched in several other countries, and from what we've seen, there are single options there too.

We're sure more options will come in the future, but it's rather frustrating that the service doesn't already include them, especially as it is a pretty basic feature to have.

Until then, we rely on the "Translate" feature in Chrome. If you use Chrome to watch Discovery Plus, you should also try right-clicking on the screen and going for the feature that will change all the text on the screen to the desired language.

Discovery Plus costs $4.99 per month for the ad-supported version and $6.99 per month for the ad-free platform. It features content from over a dozen networks from within the Discovery family, including Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, HGTV, and Food Network.
