Netflix Introduces User Profile PINs and Parental Controls

By Bill Toulas / April 8, 2020

Netflix announced that they are introducing the ability to protect user profiles with PINs so that kids or other family members won’t be able to access them. The popular streaming platform is bringing this new feature at a time when we’re all stuck at home due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. With all members of the family staying inside, the risk of having someone accessing your account, viewing history, favorites, and content that is inappropriate for their age group is increasing exponentially.

In the same context, Netflix is planning to introduce more in-depth control over what underage profile users are viewing on the streaming platform from any device they may be accessing it. First, there is going to be an age-based content filtering system on each profile for users who have kids of different ages. Secondly, there’s going to be a more granular filtering system, where the user will be able to remove films of series for individual profiles. Finally, the adults will be able to scrutinize their kids’ viewing histories, as well as to set the auto-play option to off to prevent binge-watching.

To access these new settings, visit your Netflix account settings on the PC, laptop, tablet, or smartphone and enable what you need. By default, they are not active, so nothing is blocked or locked when a new account is created. The only thing that remains locked on Netflix is the content that is subject to regional limitations, and we have already prepared a detailed guide on how to deal with this issue. If you are looking for the latest updates on what’s leaving and what’s coming on Netflix this month, we got your back there too.

Just remember, the global internet is strained due to the massive amounts of data traffic that have to be handled by telcos, so buying the ‘Ultra HD’ plan may not deliver consistently high quality on all shows and during all times of the day (or night). Just keep that in mind while proceeding to create an account. If Netflix isn’t your cup of tea, check out this list with the best 15 streaming services to choose from right now.
