Xbox Introduces All-New Android App (With Remote Play)

By Novak Bozovic / September 22, 2020

One of the most significant changes to arrive with this year's Xbox consoles relates to Microsoft's vision of a unified Xbox gaming experience. In other words, the new consoles will enable you to play Xbox games on any device, which applies to those that you own – as well as those that you get through a Game Pass subscription.

And now, another piece of that puzzle is ready – as Microsoft has just announced an all-new Xbox app for Android devices.

The new Xbox app takes a drastic departure from what was previously available on Android devices. The app has been rewritten from the ground up, and it's now easier to use and packed with all-new features. So, here are some of the most important highlights.

Xbox Remote Play Now Available to Everyone

Previously known as 'Console Streaming (Preview),' Microsoft has finally made this feature available to all Xbox owners. This means you don't need an Xbox Insider account anymore to stream the games installed on your console locally. However, what's important to mention is that this includes locally stored games and Xbox Game Pass titles as well.

Besides, you can now sign-in on multiple Xbox consoles and Xbox apps – at the same time. However, you can only have a single gaming session. So, as you progress, everything is saved and synced across your devices.

Unified Notifications & Instant Updates

The new Xbox app for Android also takes proper care of notifications. Previously, Microsoft talked about unifying the entire Xbox experience across different platforms. This is now clearly visible in terms of notifications. As you clear notifications on one device, they are synced with other devices as well – including your console.

Notifications also show you all there's to know regarding your profile. You'll see invites for parties, chats, new friends and followers, captures ready to be shared, and more.

Xbox Party & Chat On-The-Go

Using built-in voice and text chat, you'll now get to stay connected with your friends – no matter which device you're using. For example, using the new Xbox Android app, you'll get to chat with everyone in your circle, no matter if they play on Xbox, Windows 10, or if they're using the new Android app.

In terms of using your voice to talk to your friends, the Xbox app works with any Bluetooth headset that you've already paired with your smartphone. The same goes for wired connections, of course.

One-Stop-Shop for Video & Image Sharing

As you capture gaming moments on your Xbox console, they will be synced with your Android app as well. This means you could use the app to preview those images and videos, prepare them for sharing, and post them across social media or the Internet.

This feature will go hand-in-hand with a new Xbox Wireless Controller, which will come with the Xbox Series X / S. The controller will come with a dedicated button, allowing you to customize the way you capture screenshots, game clips, and access your media library.

Already Available on the Google Play Store!

Lastly, know that you don't have to wait to try out all those new features. The all-new Xbox app for Android has just been released, as you can download it from the Play Store.
