By Samona Punjabi / January 24, 2022

If you're a Naruto fan, then you probably already know what Sage Mode is since you've seen several powerful characters use the technique, the most prominent being Naruto's master Jiraiya. Jiraiya's use of Sage mode was so popular that he is often referred to as "The Toad Sage." So, it's no surprise that his number one pupil, Naruto, also learns this technique.

The only unfortunate thing about Naruto learning how to use Sage Mode was that his former master Jiraiya could not see it. Naruto decides to learn the technique right after his master's passing to avenge him and make him proud. The question is, when does Naruto master this ability? Read on to find out.

What Episode Does Naruto Learn Sage Mode?

We all know the story of Jiraiya The Gallant, who was killed by none other than his star student Nagato AKA Pain right before his assault on Konoha. After his passing, Naruto deciphers the clue he behind, which reads "the real one is not with them," referring to the six paths of Pain and how Nagato was the one behind the scenes the whole time.

Naruto learns Sage Mode from episode 154 through episode 160 of Naruto: Shippuden. Once Naruto finds out about Jiraiya's demise, he is distraught since he was the only father figure he ever had. After Naruto vows to avenge Jiraiya's death, Fukasaku decides to take him to Mount Myokobu to learn Sage Mode. The two then train for several days before Naruto can master the technique.

Interestingly, Naruto learns the Sage Mode ability and perfects it, something that Jiraiya was never able to do. This is evident because even until the end, Jiraiya would develop certain frog-like features on his body when using Sage Mode. However, in a short period, Naruto perfects the ability and can use Sage Mode without any such problem, thus surpassing his master.
