Watch Fast and Furious Movies in Order – Chronological or Release Date

By Gabriela Vatu / January 23, 2021

It may be hard to believe, but the Fast and Furious franchise kickstarted 20 years ago. Since then, we've had eight films and a spin-off, so there's plenty of content to watch it.

It all started with The Fast and the Furious and fresh-faced Paul Walker and Vin Diesel. The movie was a massive success, bringing in over $200 million at the box office on a budget of under $40 million. Over the years, all nine films have managed to bring in over $5.8 billion at the box office, with a total budget of $1.2 billion.

The cast has expanded to include names like Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, who joined Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Chris Bridges (Ludacris), Lucas Black, and Sung Kang. Of course, the tragic death of Paul Walker has caused fans across the world to mourn for the actor, but the franchise prevailed, and the story continued.

Now, if you plan on bringing on Fast & Furious, there are a couple of options - order of release and chronological. Let's dive in and see which way you'd want to go.

Watch Fast & Furious Movies in Order of Release

If you're going to watch the movies in the order they were released, things are pretty straightforward.

Watch Fast & Furious Movies in Chronological Order

If you're going to watch movies in chronological order, then you need to take into consideration when the plot of the movie takes place. So, let's see what this list looks like.

The logic behind this particular order is the fact that during Tokyo Drift, the third film, Han dies in a car accident. However, in Fast & Furious, the fourth film, Han is alive and well. So, the theory is that Tokyo Drift actually takes place later on in the timeline.

That theory seems to hold water when in Fast & Furious 6, Han tells the group that he's going to Tokyo, a place he always wanted to visit. Han is followed by Shaw to Tokyo, as Deckard seeks vengeance.

Other Fast & Furious Content to Watch

The Fast and Furious movies are loosely accompanied by other content too. For instance, there are a couple of shorts you should be looking into. The Turbo Charged Prelude for 2 Fast 2 Furious and Los Bandoleros.

There is also the animation show Fast & Furious Spy Racers up on Netflix which has three seasons thus far.

Another movie is scheduled for release in 2021, but given how many times we've seen movies postponed since the pandemic hit, we're going to keep our fingers crossed.
