By Evanshi Mavani / March 10, 2022

Due to Covid, there were few anime releases last year, and viewers had to wait for ages for the new seasons of their favorite shows. Thankfully, 2022 is going to be an amazing year for anime as a lot of popular shows are finally getting a new season. No matter where your tastes lie, the following months are stacked with releases that'll have you waiting eagerly.

However, considering that we have such a jam-packed year ahead of us, it's difficult to include every exhilarating release. That is why we have made this list exclusively to cover ten of the most eagerly awaited season releases of popular anime slated to premiere in 2022. So without further ado, let’s get started!

10. To Your Eternity (Season 2)

To Your Eternity Season 2

The plot of "To Your Eternity" revolves around an eternal entity, initially known as "It" but subsequently officially named Fushi, which has been sent to Earth to learn how to be human. Fushi can change into any form, from a stone to finally a white wolf. In this form, it meets a lonely child who soon passes from a terrible injury and weariness. Moved, Fushi chooses to put on the child’s body and fulfill his ambition of traveling the planet and meeting unique and interesting people.

The latest season of "To Your Eternity" will follow the Guardians Arc of the manga. Tonari and her owl Ligard, Sandel, as well as Hayase, will once again appear here, albeit only in memories. Some of the new faces that will be introduced are Hisame, Oumi, Ushio, and many more. However, a few alterations from the manga are expected, since not everything can be adapted as it is.

To Your Eternity is an artistically rich and meaningful anime that addresses many fundamental problems throughout its narrative. With the first season being a massive success, fans are excited to see what the second season has in store for them!

9. Made in Abyss: The Sun Blazes Upon the Golden City (Season 2)

Made in Abyss Season 2

Made in Abyss created waves in the anime community when it first aired, and since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting the second season. Thankfully, the anime gods have blessed us in 2022, and we are finally getting the next installation in the series - The Sun Blazes Upon the Golden City!

The first season of Made in Abyss introduced us to the surreal and captivating world and the abyss that existed in it. The story mainly focused on Riko's journey through the vast and unexplored Abyss together with a robot called Reg. As for Season 2, it will follow a similar route with both pursuing their voyage into the gaping hole of mysteries. A lot of tears, pain, and simple yet fulfilling moments are bound to occur with this release!

While no particular premiere date has been announced yet, we can anticipate Made in Abyss Season 2 to release in the second half of 2022. You can check out the official trailer for the new season below.

8. Overlord (Season 4)

Overlord Season 4

The renowned VR technology videogame "Yggdrasil" is shutting down for good during the year 2125. Nevertheless, before it unfolds, Momonga, who controls Ainz Ooal Gown, chooses to spend the final seconds of the game before everything starts going down.

However, once the server is down, Momonga discovers himself within the game, inside the avatar of Ainz. Furthermore, the non-player characters have evolved their own identities. Ainz orders his devoted minions to look into the unusual occurrence and tries to seek people in similar circumstances as him, as well as a method to return home.

Overlord has been one of the most famous action-adventure anime, alongside Sword Art Online. Since all three seasons experienced tremendous popularity, a fourth season has finally been announced to premiere in July 2022. Furthermore,  the "Holy Kingdom Arc" is also being adapted into a film.

Season 4 of Overlord will likely cover volumes 10-12 of the book series. Volume 10 is titled "The Ruler of Conspiracy” and it tells the narrative of Ainz Ooal Gown, who decides to make his realm a utopia for all species. Ainz began this paradise gradually by leaning more towards the Imperial power in order to boost the Adventurer's Guild. "The Craftsman of Dwarf", i.e., the 11th volume focuses on Ainz’s travels to the Dwarf Kingdom with the intention of locating the missing rune sorcery. He is accompanied on his quest by Shalltear Bloodfallen and Aura Bella Fiora. Volume 12 titled "The Paladin of the Holy Kingdom” centers on the onslaught of the Demon Emperor, Jaldabaoth. In addition, the demi-humans threaten to control the Holy Kingdom's Great Wall.

7. Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (Season 4)

Danmachi Season 4

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon, better known as DanMachi, has had its grips on the anime community since its release. While it’s not a masterpiece or even a “good” anime by any means, it is absolutely entertaining.

The show follows the adventures of 14-year-old solo explorer Bell Cranel, who has been bestowed certain abilities after encountering the deity Hestia. He aspires to be among the world's greatest explorers by conquering dungeons.

Due to the series’ popularity, there have already been three seasons of the show and the viewers were even treated to a surprise OVA episode in late April of 2021. However, for those that are expecting way more "DanMachi," there is also another season on the way.

Season 4 of "DanMachi" has yet to get a confirmed plot outline, however, the teaser trailer does provide some hints as to the main subject of the anime's forthcoming part. The teaser exhibits most of Bell's previous escapades and shows him wanting to become even stronger after losing the battle against the great Asterius in the Season 3 finale. In Season 4, we'll undoubtedly see him on his quest to better himself.

6. The Devil Is a Part-Timer! (Season 2)

The Devil Is a Part-Timer! (Season 2)

The plot of The Devil Is a Part-Timer revolves around Satan, who flees with his official to advanced Tokyo after already being thwarted by a hero called Emilia. He is required to work part-time at a McDonald's parody to pay the bills because he lacks an armed force and wizardry.

The Devil is a Part-Timer is arguably one of the funniest anime of all time. Unfortunately, with only one season released in 2013, fans had lost hope for another installation in the series. However, it seems that nothing is impossible anymore, as season 2 of Hataraku Maou-sama has just been announced. 8 years in the making, god, it better be good!

The latest teaser has already been released, and the art is quite different this time around due to the change in the animation company. You can check it out below.

5. Komi Can't Communicate (Season 2)

Komi Cant Communicate

Komi Can’t Communicate is considered to be one of the best anime of 2021, and not without reason. The story revolves around Komi, a high school girl who quickly becomes popular due to her grace and beauty. She does, nevertheless, have one dilemma: she is unable to converse with anybody. Tadano, a classmate who sits opposite her, sees Komi’s communication issues and tries to assist her.

The anime had a very simple formula that just worked perfectly. Seeing Komi conquer her social anxiety and navigate her way through school and personal life just triggered this innate desire in the audience to protect her at all costs.

Due to such popularity, the second season of Komi Can't Communicate has been slated to release in April 2022! While we are not aware of what is in store for us, if it follows the route of season 1, the series can already be called a success.

4. Saga of Tanya the Evil (Season 2)

Saga of Tanya the Evil (Season 2)

Saga of Tanya the Evil is an isekai like no other and has quickly become a fan favorite. The tale retains a realistic style that complements the overall military subject, which contains tragedies, brutality, and the inevitable consequences of battle that makes the whole thing worthwhile.

While the studio NUT announced that they would be taking a break after season 1 before working on season 2, fans did not expect them to actually continue working on the anime. Due to this, they are thrilled to see their favorite sadistic loli once again in 2022!

However, many are doubtful whether the second season will maintain the original quality. The first season was faithful to the source material, with minimal liberties taken. However, the movie made some drastic changes to events, which might impact the upcoming season as well. Hopefully, Saga of Tanya the Evil doesn’t pull a “Tokyo Ghoul” and stays on track with its story and characters.

3. Kaguya-sama: Love is War: Ultra Romantic (Season 3)

Kaguya-sama_ Love is War Season 3

Since the producers announced a new installation in Kaguya-sama: Love Is War's series in October 2020, fans have been excitedly anticipating Season 3. Fortunately, despite the constant setbacks due to the pandemic, a new season has been announced to release in April 2022.

Kaguya-sama: Love is War follows the story of Kaguya Shinomiya, the heir of one of Japan’s wealthiest families and vice-president of her high school’s student council, and Miyuki Shirogane, the school’s over-achieving president who is from the working class. The two student council leaders are clearly head over heels for each other, but both are too proud to admit it. Believing that the first one to confess love would be on the losing end, the two play a series of increasingly complicated mind games in order to force the other to admit their feelings first.

While "Kaguya-sama: Love is War" stays fairly true to the original source, it does so in chronological order rather than the order in which the events of the story are presented in the manga. This is due to the manga's extensive usage of flashbacks to specific events in Kaguya's and other characters' pasts, which are subsequently incorporated into the anime for a more linear tale.

Chapters 100 and 101 of the manga were the final major sections of Season 2's coverage. As a result, viewers can anticipate events from Chapters 105 to 156 to be animated in Season 3, such as the midterm examinations, the rap fight, and possibly even the Christmas parties from Chapters 149 to 156.

2. My Hero Academia (Season 6)

My Hero Academia

My Hero Academia’s plot revolves around Midoriya Izuku, a quirkless child who wants to be a hero. Despite not having any powers, he refuses to give up on his dream and sets his sights on the elite hero training academy, UA High.

Midoriya's life takes a sharp turn after a chance meeting with the number one hero, All Might. Discovering that his dream is not a dead-end, he undergoes special training, works harder than ever, and inherits All Might's power. With his newfound abilities, Izuku enters his school of choice, beginning his grueling journey to becoming the best hero in the world.

My Hero Academia has maintained its position as one of the most popular shonen anime in recent years. All of its seasons have performed tremendously well, and many are already considering MHA to be one of the big 3 of this decade. While that claim is still debatable, it’s true that fans are eagerly awaiting season 6 of My Hero Academia, which is set to release in October 2022. The anime will follow the Heroes who face off against the Paranormal Liberation Front in all-out war, thus covering the manga's "Paranormal Liberation War" arc, which runs from chapters 253 to 306.

1. Attack on Titan: Final Season (Part 2)

Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan’s Final Season Part 2 is undoubtedly the most anticipated season ever! The hype on social media has been insane, and it’s almost wholesome seeing everyone wait together for their favorite show. Thankfully, the wait isn’t long, and the series has already started airing from January 9th, 2022. Currently, there are nine episodes out, and the next one is set to release on 13th March.

This season, Eren decides to set a disastrous plan in motion, shocking both his allies and enemies. Meanwhile, Marley and Eldia utilize both soldiers and Titans in a brutal race to eliminate the other. Elsewhere, despite being imprisoned Mikasa and Armin try to save their childhood friend’s soul, believing Eren is still “good” underneath. Yeah, right.

While the new season has just been released, it is a bittersweet moment, as Attack On Titan will finally end with a few episodes. That said, this series will undoubtedly be remembered as a masterpiece for decades to come.
