Next-Gen VR to Dominate The Upcoming CES 2018

By Thoinot Arbeau / January 7, 2018

CES 2018 is on the horizon, and tech enthusiasts have a lot to be excited for. There are many new things that will be presented at the show, but next-gen VR will maybe be the cherry on top of the cake.

The event kicks off on January 9th, and it will end three days later. Two days before the opening there will be two media days where companies will take the stage to talk about their new products and innovations. The convention will be held in Las Vegas.

What's so special about the Next-Gen VR?

In comparison to its predecessors, next generation Virtual Reality devices will have three key segments that will stand out. Those are wireless sets, haptics, and advanced displays.

Wireless

Wireless VRs are not such a new thing, but this year we can expect a myriad of companies trying to push their own. Having no cables attached to your device certainly seems cool and will overall provide a better experience of the VR. It is expected that popular headsets like HTC Vive and Oculus Rift will introduce their wireless upgrades very soon.

Haptics

Haptics
Definitely, the most challenging segment of next-gen VR sets are going to be the haptics. Having a technology that will enable you to feel with your hands what actually isn't there seems very hard to accomplish. However, it looks like that computer hardware manufacturers HaptX have found a way. Their new product called the Touch Glove certainly looks cool, but how realistic will it feel, we'll see.

Displays

The main issue with VR displays is the resolution. What are no wires and fancy touch gloves going to do when the scenery simply doesn't look real. Very expensive graphics cards are standing in the way of these updates because they raise the cost of the device itself to a great extent. However, we can still expect some large improvements in this segment at the upcoming CES.

Final Thoughts

CES 2018 will be a big break for next-gen VR devices and their manufacturers, but many other companies are looking forward to the event as well. It's certain that we will see some exciting new stuff from the tech world in the following week.

Are you as well excited for next generation Virtual Reality devices? What are the companies you expect the most from at the CES 2018? Let's talk about this in the comment section.
