New Hulu Streaming Plans to Start At Just $5.99 From February

By Nitish Singh / January 24, 2019

While streaming giants like Netflix raising prices and cable TV prices increasing as well, Hulu is doing the exact opposite by offering a price cut for its customers. Along with the Bond movies that are coming next month on the streaming platform, we are also set to receive a price cut on the base $7.99 plan which is being reduced to $5.99. The changes will go into effect on February 26 for new and existing customers who are billed past the date.

The live TV cable replacement service is receiving a price hike though, with a $5 increase from its usual $39.99 price tag to $44.99. However, people who use Hulu long-term will be unaffected by the change. the ad-free on-demand service plan is not seeing a price change with the plan staying at $11.99 per month. Unlike services like Netflix that offer a lot of original content, Hulu is a collaboration of multiple TV networks who distribute content via the platform. Hulu does have some original content, but it’s not much compared to some of the competitor’s offerings.

With Netflix raising prices and the likes of Apple and Disney set to break into the streaming market, we can expect Hulu to grow as a brand. Many users have indicated that they want to move away from Netflix after the recent price increase announcements and Hulu might be a good fit. Apple has indicated that it wants to offer its streaming service for non-Apple hardware as well and we may see the company’s content making it to Hulu’s live-streaming service. With new entrants later this year and aggressive pricing from existing services, 2019 is all set to open up the streaming market.
