The story of Angel Beats is set in the afterlife, where a high school student named Otonashi suddenly wakes up and realizes he has died. Upon waking up, he finds himself in the middle of an intense battle between two strange girls. Once he realizes the strange predicament, one of the girls from the fight, Yuri, tells him she's allying against her rival, Tenshi.

We follow Otonashi's journey as he unravels the secrets of the afterlife and the mysterious aura around Tenshi. Otonashi refuses to believe Tenshi is evil and feels a strange attraction toward her. Despite his reservations, he joins Yuri and her team, the Shinda Sekai Sensen or the SSS.
