How to Fix Disney Plus Error Code 44?

By Gabriela Vatu / November 4, 2020

Disney Plus has a ton of content you'll want to watch, regardless of the country you're in. As the platform expands to more and more countries, we keep getting various errors that we need to know how to handle.

We’re sorry, but we cannot play the video you requested because it is no longer available. Please try again. If you think you are seeing this message in error, visit the Disney+ Help Center (Error Code 44).

Error code 44 is one that will keep you away from the content you want to watch, but where does it come from, and how can you fix it?

What Causes Error Code 44?

The problem that causes Code 44 is that the video you are trying to watch simply can't be played at the time. Disney states that the problem may be due to the rights to stream the content in a specific country or an internal issue with the system.

How to Fix Error Code 44?

Fixing this problem may be a bit harder to do since it may not be in your hands to do so at all. However, we're going to give this one a try.

  • Since Disney Plus is available in multiple markets around the world, licensing rights for some titles may still be in the hands of other platforms, like HBO or Netflix, for instance, depending on which are locally available. That being said, if you have a VPN enabled and a server from a different country selected, you may not be able to watch the content as it's not available in that area. Therefore, simply disable the VPN and reload Disney Plus.
  • Another option is to simply close the app and relaunch it in case the error is just a glitch in the system and will reset itself once the app is relaunched.

If that doesn't work, go ahead and contact the Disney Plus customer support team, which is available 24/7. They're going to look into things and let you know why you can't access the title you're eager to watch or when it might become available once more.

Sadly, you're likely going to have to wait until Disney+ once more has the rights to stream that particular show or movie.
