TikTok, Helo, Bigo Live, Vigo Video, VMate, UVideo, & Kwai Banned in India – Check Out These Alternatives!

By Novak Bozovic / July 1, 2020

In a somewhat surprising turn of events, the Indian government has decided to ban close to 60 Chinese apps. As you can see, the tension between India and China has found its way to the digital realm as well, with numerous Android and iOS users being affected by this decision. More precisely, apps such as TikTok, Helo, Bigo Live, Vigo Video, VMate, UVideo, and Kwai have found themselves on the list of banned apps. All of those are video-based entertainment apps, allowing you to record yourself, post funny videos, and get in touch with others from around the world.

Still, we all know that Google’s Play Store and iOS App Stores are filled with all kinds of high-quality apps. With this said, we’ve decided to show you the best alternatives to TikTok, Helo, Bigo Live, Vigo Video, VMate, UVideo, and Kwai. All of the following apps are available in India, as they come with apps for either Android or iOS.

And also, one more note. Apps like Bigo Live, Vigo Video, and UVideo are still available for some users in India. However, we’re sure they’ll disappear soon enough – which is where the following list comes into play.

Chingari (Android)

Even before apps like TikTok disappeared from India, Chingari found its way to hundreds of thousands of Indians. This app is all about creating and sharing short videos, following local creators and from around the world, and checking out all kinds of short-form videos (news, entertainment, funny, and status videos). We expect many TikTok users to switch to Chingari so that they can continue to follow their favorite online celebrities.

Roposo (Android, iOS)

Being called “India’s favorite video app,” Roposo has been around since 2014. It comes with a similar concept to TikTok and Helo – but with a slight twist, of course. Roposo offers a TV-like video browsing experience where you can dive into user-created content from numerous different categories. It’s reportedly used by over 65 million users, which means that you’ll always find something interesting to watch.

Bolo Indya (Android)

Bolo Indya has been created by Indian developers – specifically for users in this country. It means that the app offers video content creation in local languages like Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, and more. Of course, the app is also available in English – where you’ll find short-form video content related to categories like news, comedy, health, entertainment, travel, food, and more.

Dubsmash (Android, iOS)

One of the trademarks of TikTok is lip-syncing. If you’d like to continue creating lip-syncing videos or follow your favorite creators, you’re going to love what Dubsmash offers. The app allows users to choose an audio recording from movies, TV shows, or music tracks, and then record a video of themselves dubbing over the piece of audio. You’re also free to use the app to make a video and then save it locally.

Mitron (Android)

It’s true that Mitron is a young online platform. However, considering the ban on Chinese apps in India, we’re sure it’s poised to achieve significant success. The app is all about light humor, allowing individuals to record and edit videos and share them on the platform. And yes, we’re talking about short-form videos here. If you want to stay away from the news and dive into something entertaining, Mitron is a good option right now.
