Key Takeaways
  • Dual Disruptions: The social media platform X experienced two separate outages on Monday, affecting tens of thousands of users.
  • Peak Reports: The first outage saw over 40,000 user reports on Downdetector between 8:15 a.m. and 8:45 a.m. EST, with a second spike of 25,000 reports in the afternoon.
  • Widespread Issues: Users reported problems with the mobile app, website access, and loading timelines, though the platform's official status page showed no issues.

Elon Musk's social media platform, X, experienced significant disruptions on Monday, with two separate outages impacting users globally. The first incident occurred in the morning, resulting in more than 40,000 user-submitted problem reports on the tracking website Downdetector.

Issues appeared to subside before a second wave of disruptions hit in the afternoon, leading to another 25,000 reports. The X app downtime was a primary complaint, with half of the reports citing problems with the mobile application.

User Impact and Platform Response

During the social media platform disruptions, users encountered issues accessing their timelines and loading content on both the desktop website and the mobile app. The problems were widespread but intermittent, with service reportedly restored by 2 p.m. EST, according to various publications.

Despite the tens of thousands of user reports, with a peak of over 41,000 outages, the official developer status page for X maintained that "all systems are operational" throughout the day. Reports indicate Cloudflare's service status was marked as fixed, and some speculate a broken API may be at fault.

The company did not issue a formal statement or respond to requests for comment regarding the cause of the outages.

Recurring Elon Musk Social Media Issues

This recent service interruption adds to a series of technical difficulties the platform has faced. X experienced a similar, though smaller, outage in January.

Last year, the platform was hit by several larger outages that affected tens of thousands of users. In March 2025, a massive X cyberattack led to a global outage, which was claimed by the Dark Storm on Telegram.

In October, the EU proposed new measures for X, Google, Meta, Microsoft, and TikTok to combat hybrid threats.
