Over the years there has been quite a bit of an uproar about inequality when it comes to awards shows, especially when it comes to people of color getting nominated, or any other minorities really, but the BET Awards has always been a breath of fresh air in this department. So, if you’re just as excited as we are to watch the 2019 BET Awards online, we’re here to help you out.

The BET Awards have been around since 2001, taking the chance to celebrate African Americans and other American minorities and their achievements in music, acting, sports, and any other entertainment areas. The event will be held on June 23, 2019. Although there’s been no official announcement regarding the location of this year’s ceremony, in the past several years, the BET Awards took place at the famous Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California.

Again, the name of the host has yet to be announced, but the BET Awards has been known to attract A-listers for the hosting gig. Last year, Oscar-nominated actor Jamie Foxx entertained the audience, while the funny Leslie Jones took on the job in 2017. We expect this year, we’re going to see a name that’s just as big as those in the previous years.

You can check out the list of nominees for this year’s BET Awards. Cardi B leads the list with 7 nominations, followed by Drake with 5. Also, Beyonce, Travis Scott, and J. Cole also have four nominations each. As far as who will be performing goes, there’s no info on this so far, even though the event is pretty close now.

The event will be televised on BET, which is a fairly popular channel. They will also stream the event online via the BET website, but you can also catch the channel over various streaming platforms.

First, on our list, we have fuboTV, which is a great service that started out as an ideal platform for sports lovers. While it continues to be perfect for those who love all sorts of sports, they’ve also expanded the channel base to include more family-oriented channels, including BET. You’ll find the channel in the main bundle, called fubo ($54.99/mo). If you want to customize the plan, you can add loads of channel packs and premium networks.

When it comes to your options to record content, subscribers receive enough room for 30 hours of video. You can always expand to 500 hours of Cloud DVR space by paying $9.99 per month. Also, the platform supports two simultaneous streams, while a third can be added by paying $5.99 per month. Visit Sling

First up, we have Sling TV, which is a great platform, especially for those who enjoy customizing the services they subscribe to. There are three bundles you can start with, as well as loads of packs featuring channels that are grouped by the type of content they broadcast, plus premium networks – so you’re good to go customizing the service however you want to. When subscribing to Sling TV, you’ll notice that BET isn’t part of the main bundles anymore, but has been moved to the Lifestyle pack, which costs $5 per month, regardless of which bundle you choose to start off with.

If you want to make sure you can watch the BET Awards even if you’re not home, Sling TV can record it for you, but only if you pay $5 per month for the Cloud DVR feature which gives users the possibility to record up to 50 hours of content. Then, when it comes to watching content on multiple devices at once, things get a bit trickier because it depends on which bundle you originally picked. What we mean is that those who chose the Orange bundle can only watch on one device, but those who picked the Blue one can enjoy three simultaneous streams. Also, people who signed up for Orange + Blue can watch on four devices at once, so your whole family is covered and then some. Check out TechNadu’s Sling TV review for more details on what the service has to offer.

BET channel is present in this bundle, so you don’t have to worry about anything else. Philo doesn’t carry any extra packs or premium networks, or even add-ons, so what you see is that you get when you subscribe to the service.

Philo comes with some pretty good perks for those who choose their platform. First, the cloud DVR feature is unlimited, meaning that you can record however much content you want, as long as you get to watch it within 30 days because they expire afterward. Then, when it comes to watching content on multiple devices, you’re in luck because there are three available simultaneous streams. Come check out Philo’s review to find out all the details.

4. DirecTV Now

We also have DirecTV Now on the list, which is a great platform with loads of customization options. There are seven bundles now, two of which were added earlier this year – Plus and Max. The other five bundles have actually been around for a long time, but they were renamed and given a much bigger price – Entertainment, Choice, Xtra, Ultimate, and Optimo Mas. You can still add a couple of Spanish channel packs, several international packs and plenty of premium networks. You’ll find that BET is available in the Plus, Max, Entertainment, Choice, Xtra, and Ultimate bundles, so you can pick the one that has the perfect channel combo or the right price.

The service comes with some perks for those who are interested, but they won’t “wow” you. The cloud DVR feature has a 20-hour limit and you have no way to expand it by paying any extra fees, which is something we hope they remedy soon. Then, when it comes to watching content on multiple devices at once, you should know that DirecTV Now offers all users two simultaneous streams, with a third one becoming available by paying $5 per month. Read TechNadu’s DirecTV Now review for more information on the service.

What Award Categories Does the BET Awards Have?

The award categories at the BET Awards have changed a bit over the years, but it seems to have settled for a solid main group. In the Music category, they give awards for Album of the Year, Video of the Year, Coca-Cola Viewer’s Choice Award, Best Collaboration, Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, Best Female R&B Artist, Best Male R&B Artist, Best Group, Best New Artist, Dr. Bobby Jones Best Gospel/Inspirational Award. Then, in the Movie category, they offer awards for the Best Movie, Best Actress and Best Actor. The awards for athletes are for Sportswoman of the Year and Sportsman of the Year. Other awards offered are for Video Director of the Year, YoungStars Award, Best International Act and Her Award, with the latter two having been awarded for the first time in 2018. It’s unclear if the tradition will continue in 2019.

Can You Live Stream BET Awards?

Yes. On top of the streaming services that offer the regular BET broadcast, you can also watch on the BET website. You’ll need to have credentials from your cable provider or streaming service to log into your account and unlock the live stream, but it’s possible. We recommend using the streaming services directly, if possible because sites aren’t usually well-prepared for a high number of people visiting the live streams, so you may experience some buffering.

Who Has the Most BET Awards?

That would be Beyonce. The beloved artist has received 61 nominations over the years, including 6 with Destiny’s Child, and has won the prize 28 times. Then comes Chris Brown, who managed to win 15 times out of the 42 nominees he received. Drake and Serena Williams tie for third place with 12 wins each.

We hope we’ve been helpful in directing you in the right place to watch the 2019 BET Awards online this year, freeing you from your living room couch.
