Video Sharing App Vine to Be Succeeded by Byte in Spring 2019

By Nitish Singh / November 9, 2018

Vine was the “next big thing” in social media, and millions of users were posting their vines, which were short videos. The app managed to carve out a niche for itself and was adopted by ardent social media users, but its popularity was short lived. The service was eventually integrated with Twitter and its popularity died away four years after launch.

The now-defunct video sharing app is now set to be revived according to co-creator Don Hofman, who revealed that a successor to Vine is in the works which will offer the same features and a whole lot more. We do not have details on the upcoming app just yet, and we will receive more details closer to the service’s release which is scheduled for spring 2019.

According to Hofman, Byte is the same project as “v2” which received a lot of publicity and a highly transparent development process. The app went into development last year in and was postponed soon after to May 2018 due to logistics and funding issues. The project has received some funding, and we can expect Vine’s successor to release next year around Spring.

Vine was not around for a very long time but was hugely popular for video content creators. Eventually, Instagram took over, and longer videos have always been more popular on Twitch and YouTube. Chinese company ByteDance released TikTok which has been gaining tracking lately and has filled the void left behind by Vine to some extent.

A website has been put up, and users who are interested in staying up to date with the latest happenings around the upcoming service can sign up for notifications. We can expect Byte to compete against TikTok aggressively for the number one spot once it releases next year.

Do you think Byte will be as popular as Vine? Let us know in the comments below. Also, follow TechNadu on Facebook and Twitter. Thanks!
