Spectrum Releases “TV Essentials” With Cable Content for $15 A Month

By Nitish Singh / February 22, 2019

Spectrum released its new “Spectrum TV Essentials” package that includes all popular cable networks including MTV, TLC, OWN, Weather Channel and more. The new streaming service seeks to offer an alternative to spending hundreds of dollars on a cable connection. With a price tag of $14.99 a month, the service pricing is on par with the competition.

The same channels are available as part of Spectrum’s cable services as well but cost much more. The company is also offering a la carte plans in a bid to win back cable cutters. Viacom President and CEO Bob Bakish stated in a press release that the company believes in offering high quality, lower priced option for internet-only subscribers.

Tom Rutledge, Charter Chairman, and CEO stated in the press release “As we began to assemble the rights for this new video service, we received great enthusiasm and encouragement from these key programming partners, who share our view and embrace creating an innovative video offering we believe will resonate with our internet customers.”

While Spectrum does not offer premium content that something like HBO or Netflix would, it seems to be compatible with all major platforms. The service is now available on iOS, Android, Roku, Xbox One, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, and Samsung Smart TV. Desktop users can also access the service through its web-based format.

When it comes to features, there is not much Spectrum is offering. You do not have access to offline downloads or anything unique. The navigation is basic and parental controls are available. Users who pay for the service will get access to it even on private networks and not just Spectrum’s own Wi-Fi network.
