Samsung’s new facial recognition technology unlocks Galaxy S8 phone just by a photo

Samsung's new flagship Galaxy S8 smartphones introduced a new device unlock feature based on facial recognition software can be bypassed with a photo.

According to the report in the Korean Herald, “The phones can be unlocked by the face of a sleeping person, or even just by a photo. For now, the facial recognition technology is only intended for fun. It should not be considered as a foolproof security measure".

On Thursday, Spanish phone expert, Marciano Tech demonstrated the use of the photo to fool the facial recognition on the handsets at the New York launch. The incident is captured and shared on YouTube.

Already Samsung faced several issues because of Note 7 and its safety issues, now it repeats. It is another critique about the company. The current feature of Facial recognition is not final, they have to improvise the facility over it.

Samsung's latest flagship smartphone has been attracting a great deal this week. The new model features near-bezel-free design, new voice assistant in the form of Bixby, Samsung DeX, Qualcomm's latest and Snapdragon 835 chipset and more.
