Samsung announced its next big smartphone Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ on march 29. As expected, both devices come with bigger displays, super thin bezels, and many other extraordinary features.
On Thursday, the Korean electronics giant Samsung launched a new productivity tool named Samsung DeX alongside its flagship new handset devices that will turn them into a desktop computer.
Samsung is not the first company to try its hand at the mobile-PC experience. Microsoft company had already tried it. The DeX dock is based on the similar concept as Microsoft's continuum feature which allows a Window 10 smartphone to be connected via a continuum dock to give it full desktop-level functionality.
It is compatible with Galaxy handsets and it will convert your phone into an Android flavored desktop PC experience. if your phone is connected to the DeX station which will link your phone to an HDMI standard display unit and a Bluetooth-enabled, USB or radio frequency waves type keyboard and mouse. Both model users can access applications, send and receive messages, browse online directly from the phone onto a larger display.
The DeX short for 'desktop extension' that is a little dock that effectively turns the Galaxy S8 or S8+ into a desktop computer. The DeX is plugged into a monitor, the phone stretches out its Android to look like a Windows-esque PC platform. It seems pretty clean. The DeX itself has ports for USB-C, HDMI, Ethernet and the older USB 2.0, and comes with a cooling fan to prevent your phone from overheating.
Many DeX productivity apps are in the company's profile like internet browser, MyFiles, Gallery, and Samsung email. With the use of Samsung DeX, the user can also be assured that our data to be secure and protected by Samsung Knox security platform built into the smartphone.
Injong Rhee, CTO of the Mobile communication Business at Samsung Electronics stated that "The smartphone has become the central point for the modern mobile professional, and when giving a presentation or editing documents remotely, it means they can work effectively using just their smartphone. We developed Samsung DeX with the highly mobile worker in mind, giving them a convenient and flexible desktop experience".
