OnePlus Is Working on Its First Smart TV With Intelligent Connectivity

By Nitish Singh / September 17, 2018

Amidst all the rumors surrounding the upcoming OnePlus 6T, CEO Pete Lau revealed that the Chinese manufacturer is currently working on a smart TV. The company released a blog talking about the new Intelligent Connectivity that it is currently working on. The product will be called the “OnePlus TV” and years of development have already gone into the product.

With only five years of industry experience, it is truly a remarkable feat for the manufacturer to be able to push out a full-fledged smart TV in such a short time. The Chinese manufacturer is known for its competitively priced products that offer top of the line specifications at competitive price points. It is likely that the upcoming smart TV will be priced to go head to head with the best televisions in the market at a lower price point. Xiaomi has already managed to offer 4K HDR displays priced significantly lower than its competitors, and OnePlus may do just the same with more unique features and a custom OS that focuses on intelligent connectivity.

CEO Pete Lau revealed “Our team and community have learned a tremendous amount about software, hardware, design, product development, and delivering on the best possible user experience. These efforts -- all of those long nights and weekends in the office contributed by this team and community have paved an excellent foundation on which to build the OnePlus TV experience.

Currently, there is no word on when the TV will be announced or launched. The company has opened up to five million registered users on the forums who will be allowed to recommend names for the product.
