Classic Movie Streaming Service FilmStruck To Shut Down Next Month

By Nitish Singh / October 27, 2018

Fans of classic movies were left disappointed after popular streaming platform FilmStruck announced they will be shutting down soon. The platform was one of the most popular and respected websites that offered access to some of the rarest classic movies on the internet. An announcement was made recently that revealed that the website will be shutting down on November 29. All users who purchased a subscription for future months will receive refunds, and new customers are no longer able to sign up for the streaming service.

That platform revealed in a statement via its FAQs that “All levels of the FilmStruck service are being discontinued. This includes the FilmStruck Only Monthly package, the FilmStruck+Criterion Monthly package, the FilmStruck+Criterion Annual package, and the FilmStruck+Criterion Student package.”

The service was released in November 2016 and is part of the Turner Broadcasting System. FilmStruck was Turner’s first streaming service and offered access to classics from the company’s lineup of iconic movies. Users were also able to access content from the Criterion Collection and Warner Bros. as well. There have been no official statements from AT&T or Warner Bros. at this time, and we do not know what the future holds for fans of classic movies with no great alternatives present to replace the closed website.

FilmStruck is currently owned by AT&T, and it is unknown if it will be making a comeback later. AT&T is rumored to be working on a streaming bundle that brings all of the Warner Bros. content under one roof, and we may still be able to get access to the classic movies as part of the upcoming streaming bundle. It is not the first streaming service to be sacked as well, with popular K-drama streaming service DramaFever shutting down earlier this month.
