Zobaidul Amin, a 28-year-old Bangladeshi national, is scheduled for his initial court appearance in the District of Alaska. He faces federal charges for allegedly operating a large-scale, international child exploitation enterprise. Through close coordination between the U.S. Justice Department, the FBI, and Malaysian authorities, Amin was transferred from Malaysian custody to Alaska on March 4.
Amin is charged with a range of serious offenses, including conspiracy to produce and distribute child pornography, operating a child exploitation enterprise, cyberstalking, aggravated identity theft, and wire fraud.
The Zobaidul Amin court appearance follows a complex, multi-year investigation and a coordinated FBI international operation. Prior to facing U.S. charges, Amin was residing and attending medical school in Malaysia.Â
According to an indictment returned by a federal grand jury in July 2022, Amin is accused of abusing and exploiting hundreds of minor victims located in Alaska, throughout the U.S., and in other countries. In September 2022, Malaysian authorities charged him with 13 counts related to the possession and production of child pornography.
The charges outline a sextortion scheme where Amin allegedly used social media platforms like Instagram and Snapchat to identify, contact, and coerce minors into producing sexually explicit and sadistic images and videos.
This transfer marks a significant step in what officials have described as one of the most prolific cases of online child exploitation the U.S. has ever seen. If convicted on all counts, he faces a potential sentence of 20 years to life in prison.Â
U.S. officials have emphasized that this case demonstrates a relentless commitment to pursuing perpetrators of child exploitation, regardless of their location, and bringing them to justice on American soil. The prosecution was part of the Project Safe Childhood initiative.Â
Last month, an airman pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography, and a Philadelphia man was sentenced to 15 years in a similar case. In July 2025, a New York man was charged in a scheme to exploit minors for explicit material via Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok.
