Apple Permanently Bans InfoWars App From App Store

By Nitish Singh / September 8, 2018

About a month ago Apple had removed a large number of InfoWars podcast from their platform. This raised two questions in people’s minds. Number one - why did the technology giant take this step? And number two - why had they not removed the corresponding app from the App Store?

Well, we still don’t have any specific answer for question number one. But Apple has indeed banned InfoWars from the App Store. And this is permanent! Late on Friday evening, Apple provided a statement to BuzzFeed News that they have removed the app and it will not be allowed re-entry.

Now, the company hasn’t provided any specific reasons but instead pointed to the violation of their generic App Store guidelines. BuzzFeed News notes that “news” app was violating one of Apple’s App Store guidelines which prohibits “content that is offensive, insensitive, upsetting, intended to disgust, or in exceptionally poor taste.

“Defamatory, discriminatory, or mean-spirited content, including references or commentary about religion, race, sexual orientation, gender, national/ethnic origin, or other targeted groups, particularly if the app is likely to humiliate, intimidate, or place a targeted individual or group in harm’s way.”

The InfoWars App on Apple provided iOS users with news, articles, and other programmings coming from Alex Jones. Most of the content coming from the media platform has been deemed to be fake news or far-right American conspiracies.

It is worth noting that at the time of InfoWars Podcast removal, Apple had stated that their App Store is home to “all points of view.” That is why they refrained from removing the InfoWars App back then.

Regardless, currently, the situation is such that the Alex Jones social media accounts are getting banned left and right. Just a day before Apple removed InfoWars from their App Store, Twitter had also permanently banned Alex Jones account from their platform. In fact, in the past one month, Jones’ personal accounts, as well as, all the other InfoWars branded accounts have been removed or banned from YouTube, Pinterest, Facebook, and so on.
