Amazon Prime Video Now Available for Oculus VR Sets

By Gabriela Vatu / July 29, 2019

Amazon Prime Video is expanding its app library by including tools for Oculus go, Samsung Gear VR, and Oculus Quest VR headsets.

According to an announcement from Oculus, new Amazon Prime Video apps are being launched for the three devices, which will allow users to watch the full Amazon Prime Video library.

Furthermore, ten new 360 degree videos are being added, such as a short film called INVASION!, which stars two bunnies trying to thwart an alien attack on Earth, and an immersive documentary called Greenland Melting looking into the effects of climate change on Greenland, which makes for really great content. Other content that is specifically made for VR sets will be added, Amazon said.

If you're a Prime member, you'll have unlimited access to all the regular content and the VR-specific videos. Non-Prime members can't access VR-specific content, but they watch the rest of the library with their VR sets. Voice control will work to help users search for specific videos and for playback control.

Oculus devices already work with a long list of platforms, including Netflix, Hulu, ESPN, Showtime, Facebook Watch, and more. YouTube also has plenty of content that was created specifically for VR, so Amazon is playing catch-up. You can find and download the Prime Video VR app for Oculus Quest, Oculus Go, and Gear VR in the Oculus Store. Follow the links to easily locate them all.
