NBC Sports Launches GolfPass in Partnership with Rory McIlroy

By Nitish Singh / February 5, 2019

Four-time champion Rory McIlroy and NBC Sports introduced GolfPass, a new streaming service that caters to golf fans. The service will offer over 4,000 instructional videos, access to tournament videos and also a round of golf. The subscription fee is $10 per month or $99 if you want to pay yearly. You also have the option of opting for the $199 premium membership that will offer you access to discounts and waived booking fees at golf courses.

GolfPass is partnered with Amazon Prime, and it seeks to cater to golf enthusiasts. The Rory McIlroy said in the reveal announcement “It's sort of like, for me, Golf Channel 2.0. "[It] was driven by my desire to enrich the golf experience for fans all around the world."

NBC Sports is marketing GolfPass as a unique venture that directly caters to consumers. The project has been in development since 2017. This is not the first time such an idea has been explored with Tiger Woods partnering with Discovery to launch Golf TV, but it is not available in the US just yet. GolfPass is the first of its kind to make it into the United States.

The ability to play a round of golf as part of the subscription package if you opt for a monthly plan is the USP of the new service. With the average price of a round of golf is set at $40 on an average, GolfPass is an attractive proposition for golf fans. Aside from the 4,000 videos already available, McIlroy will be offering autobiographical videos to users and will be hosting a monthly podcast with Carson Daly. The service is available starting today in the US, and other countries are set to get access in the near future.
