April Fools’ Day Joke: Kodi To Embrace Its XBMC Roots!

By Nitish Singh / April 3, 2018

April 1st is always a fun day on the Web. Almost every notable company such as Microsoft, Netflix, and Facebook are coming up with jokes about new services. The company behind Kodi joined the bandwagon - after a hugely trending joke from 2017. Keep on reading to learn more about Kodi's latest joke.

Kodi is a legal open-source TV player software, but certain add-ons supported on the platform allows users to pirate content - as we all know about this situation. This has given Kodi a somewhat bad name, which ultimately led to its ban on Google’s search engine, which sadly isn't a joke. However, even though “Kodi” has been opted out of Google, XBMC – the company behind the software, faces no such issues. That's why it was announced that Kodi will return to its roots and be renamed to XBMC! You know how they say, the best jokes have their foundation in reality.

Now, here's the second part of the joke. Besides this, the Kodi team has also reported that their multi-platform system is becoming too stressful to manage. Previously, the software was available for Xbox, Windows, iOS, Android, and many more platforms. But alas, supporting all of them became taxing, and the Kodi team has decided to embrace its roots; the software will, from now on, exclusively support Xbox One.

In addition to this joke, and as a way to celebrate this new direction, Kodi's team of developers decided to start selling t-shirts! As it turns out, this is not a joke - and you still grab one if you hurry. We are sure that hardcore fans of this amazing application would like to have something to remind them of this joke.
