12VPN is managed by Anuson Limited. It was founded in 2007 and is a company incorporated in Hong Kong. The company is not a major player in the market but its proximity to China gives it a strategic edge over the others. The company has a lot of expertise in serving Chinese users. The company’s mission is to provide users with a “secure” and “convenient” way to access the internet freely. The VPN servers can be used from anywhere around the world, which expands the utility of this VPN. The VPN tool, as you know, functions by creating a secure tunnel through which is routed all data traveling across the internet.
VPNs such as 12VPN hide the user’s real geo-location and keep prying eyes at bay. Users who intercept your connection will only see the server’s address, not yours. This, in essence, is the secret of a VPN unblocking geo-restricted content especially on streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu.
The software also provides for a specially engineered app for smartphones, which provides online security and protection on the go. Further, the tool also allows users to use torrents on their Amsterdam and Stockholm servers. When using this service, the tool does not allow either ISPs or third-parties from discovering your online torrenting activity.
The following table is a list of the basic features of 12VPN for a ready reference:
|Prominent Features||Hides the user’s IP address; Easy to use; |
Multiple VPN servers; Unlimited data
|Number of Servers||Has servers in nearly 14 countries around the world|
|Logging Policy||Unclear logging policy|
|Encryption Standards||256-bit encryption, OpenVPN, IKEv2, L2TP/IPSec, PPTP, SSTP|

One of the most important reasons most people use VPNs is to be able to stream geo-restricted content on Netflix and Hulu. The following are the results of our tests with unblocking popular streaming services using 12VPN.
|Netflix||YES – Works with some servers|
|Hulu||YES – Works with some servers|
It is important to note that VPNs operate in a very sensitive space, which means that the servers working today might suddenly stop working tomorrow, for services such as Netflix and Hulu continually block newer IPs. With Kodi, there’s no unblocking, of course, but having a VPN in place ensures that your system does not leak any data to your ISP so your browsing activities remain untraceable online.
Let’s now see the main pros and cons of 12VPN before we dive into a detailed review of the tool.

Installation & Setup
12VPN is easily installed in a couple of minutes. Our Score: 10/10.
12VPN is one of those VPNs that are easily installed on your device through the use of native applications and VPN clients. This greatly simplifies the installation process in stark contrast with those VPNs that use a generic OpenVPN client that then needs to be configured individually for the specific VPN make.
Head over to the official 12VPN website and download the VPN client for your specific OS. Double-click on the installer file to begin installation and you’ll see the screen above. Click on Next.
Click on Install to initiate installation. That is all you need to do- sit back and relax. The installation would complete itself in a couple of minutes. When the installation is complete, you’ll see the screen below. Click on ‘Finish’ when it’s done and the installation would now be successful.
As you will note, 12VPN is pretty easily installed on the device of your choice. All you need to do is select your OS and download the appropriate installer file from the official website.
12VPN comes with a host of important features. Overall, however, it lacks a number of them. Our Score: 5/10.
12VPN has servers in as many as 14 countries around the world. It hosts several interesting features- let’s begin with privacy protection. The tool protects the user’s privacy by cloaking his IP address so it is not visible to ISPs and websites visited by the user in the course of his browsing activity online.
The user is free to choose a location of his choice when using the VPN service- you will be able to connect to a server of your choice when unblocking and streaming content.
The tool is multi-platform, which means you can install it on pretty much any device you use. The installation is straightforward and easy- please refer to the earlier sections for details.
The tool supports multiple simultaneous connections but with one restriction: each device must be connected to a different server.
The tool does not have other advanced features such as multi-hop, ad-blockers, etc which are commonly found in most other VPN available in the marketplace.
Ease of Use
When it comes to ease of use, 12VPN scores high in our tests. The tool is very convenient and delightful to use. Our Score: 10/10.
12VPN is indeed a delight to use. The software is up and running in no time and presents you with an elegant and clean UI.
On the main dashboard, which looks as in the screenshot above, you can see the server country selector drop-down menu. Choose the country of your choice and then select the encryption and VPN protocol you wish to use. Finally, click on ‘Connect’ to connect the VPN.
The 12VPN app provides for servers in 14 countries around the world. Our Score: 6/10.
The 12VPN server network is not certainly the largest network we’ve seen: there are many VPNs with much larger server networks than 12VPN. The company recommends the use of VPNGUI and the Chrome browser extension for your PC and Mac computer. and OpenConnect for Android and Linux OS.
12VPN performs moderately well in our speed tests. Our Score: 8/10.
Speed tests are one of the most important and sought after factors when it comes to comparing VPN. However, it is important to note that speed test results are dependent upon the network conditions at the time of testing, which keep fluctuating. It thus goes without saying that speed test results should only be used as a guide and not something written in stone.
Let’s now jump right into the speed tests. We will first conduct the baseline tests to establish a reference speed level.
The network is thus poorly performing at the moment with a download speed of 3.67 Mbps. Let’s now turn the VPN on and run the speed tests once again.
The above speed tests are reflective of the non-US (Hong Kong) server. As you can see, the ping time has increased and the download speed has decreased. This is expected on account of all data being routed through the VPN servers. Time now to run the tests once again, this time with the US server selected.
The ping time is much more but the download speed is almost the same as in the case with the non-US server. Overall, in our tests, we found that the connections are quite stable when using 12VPN. The tool, as described before, performs moderately in speed tests.
Let’s summarize the speed test results:
- Baseline Tests
Ping: 89 ms
Download: 3.67 Mbps
Upload: 1.88 Mbps
- US Server Tests
Ping: 323 ms
Download: 2.09 Mbps
Upload: 0.29 Mbps
- Hong Kong Server Tests
Ping: 173 Mbps
Download: 2.47 Mbps
Upload: 0.32 Mbps
Security & Privacy
12VPN features average security and privacy features. Our Score: 7/10.
Without a doubt, one of the most important reasons people choose VPNs is to enhance their online security. Using a VPN comes with its own advantages and disadvantages. For starters, it cloaks the user’s IP address so that this information is not revealed to the websites the user visits. The tool, however, lacks several important privacy and security features, which are found in many of its peers. Advanced users might miss these features too much and decide to make a switch. Beginners might not notice them, however.
Let’s now consider the 12VPN encryption level. The tool has several encryption modes to choose from. The tool supports 256-bit encryption, along with VPN protocols such as OpenVPN, IKEv2, L2TP/IPSec, PPTP, and SSTP. The tool thus features powerful military-grade encryption, which will keep you and your data safe. When a VPN encrypts data, the latter travels securely in a secure virtual tunnel. Even if someone chances upon your data, it remains undecipherable being encrypted. Not to mention, your IP address remains virtual (cloaked), so your browsing activity cannot be easily traced to you or your actual geo-location.
The tool has an unclear logging policy, for we could not find any specific mentions on the website about the logging policy in place. It largely seems, however, that the tool does not maintain logs in the course of the user’s online activity.
DNS leaks are a serious phenomenon and plague many a VPN. A DNS leak occurs when a VPN inadvertently leaks your IP information to ISPs and websites. We tested 12VPN for DNS leaks and the tool passed with flying colors.
12VPN has a great customer support, which is very responsive. Our Score: 9/10.
While we would have loved to rate 12VPN 10/10 in the quality and responsiveness of their customer service, we felt the need for a live chat feature on their website, which is missing. This is a great way to allow customers to instantly seek redressal to their complaints and attend to their queries. Who has the time to submit a ticket anyway?
To test their responsiveness, we submitted a ticket and were delighted to receive a response in some time.
12VPN has three main pricing plans, which are moderately affordable. Our Score: 9/10.
Pricing is one of the most important determining factors when it comes to choosing from amongst several software all of which perform the same or nearly the same function. While many VPNs are exorbitantly priced, 12VPN is quite affordable and offers 3 plans:
- The 1-month plan costs $10.99/month
- The 6-months plan costs $8.99/month
- The 12-months plan costs the least: $5.99/month
While the 12-months plan is the cheapest, like with other VPN, we highly recommend choosing the monthly plan, for, VPNs operate in a highly sensitive space where conditions quickly change. It is best to not commit yourself to a particular VPN for too long a period.
12VPN is a quickly set up VPN that will be up and running in no time literally. It performs well in our tests but lacks some advanced features. If all you want is a VPN that can quickly unblock geo-restricted content, go for 12VPN. It will unblock censored content on most websites and help you get access to content in a myriad of forms online.
Who Should Use This Tool? Those looking out for an easy to use VPN that is easy to set up and supports multiple platforms.
Who Should Not Use This Tool? Those looking out for many advanced features and deep levels of customization.
- PROS: Performs well in our tests; supports multiple platforms; unblocks geo-restricted content
- CONS: Lacks advanced features
- Final Verdict: 8.2 out of 10!
If you’ve made up your mind to purchase 12VPN, head over to the official 12VPN website today and purchase a subscription plan that suits you best.
12VPN is indeed one of the simplest VPNs that the average user will come across. The tool is quickly set up without problems on multiple OS platforms and will be up and running in no time. The tool has an unclear logging policy though. They have an excellent customer support team that quickly attends to your problems and works to resolve them as soon as possible.
One of the best things about 12VPN, however, in our view, is that it is very rapidly set up and is hassle-free to use. Many VPNs we have tested require the user to install a generic OpenVPN client app, which needs to be configured for the VPN in use. With 12VPN, however, you get native client apps which are easily installed on your device. The tool does not have a vast network of servers like some of its peers, but then, it must be remembered, with VPN servers, quality assumes more importance over quantity. A few servers, which are well-optimized are thus better than a large number of poorly configured servers.
The tool also performed well in our speed tests. VPNs usually drastically speed down the connection, since all data is routed through the VPN servers. However, with 12VPN, this speed drop is not the case- the tool performs moderately in our speed tests. There are no DNS leaks as well.
One of the major problems with 12VPN is the lack of advanced features and functionalities, which are present in many of the other VPNs. Will every VPN is indeed unique and caters to a different market and audience, 12VPN could certainly have been a much better app if certain features could have been incorporated into the design. There’s much to be desired.
With this, we finish our review of 12VPN, which is based on our extensive tests of this software. We covered several important aspects pertaining to this tool and to VPNs in general in this review and sincerely hope you’ve found it useful. Please feel free to leave us a comment in the space below and share this article in your social circles to keep your friends and family up to date with the latest developments in the VPN space. After all, VPNs have become ubiquitous these days owing to the rising awareness about cybersecurity issues.
